who we are
Dedicated To Health
Northwest Medical Volunteers is a nonprofit volunteer organization that provides international medical care to underserved patients with congenital, traumatic, or post-cancer facial deformities. We also offer medical and surgical training for international physicians and staff. Northwest Medical Volunteers is comprised of surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, nurses, surgical technicians, speech pathologists, and support staff. We also welcome medical students and residents interested in international medicine.
A Helping Hand To Those In Need
Our mission is to provide medical training and assistance to international medical centers in areas of need. Our focus is to help develop missions that will facilitate a mutual educational and learning experience between Northwest Medical Volunteers and the international physicians and staff involved with these missions. The ultimate goal is to create a mutual learning experience for all parties involved that will lead to long-lasting improvements in global healthcare in the areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Current Missions
Cambodia
Early missions to Cambodia began in 2006 under the direction of Dr. Craig Murakami, prior to the creation of NWMV in 2017. NWMV works in partnership with the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phenom, Penh, Cambodia, which is the country’s largest public hospital. It serves as a major medical teaching and educational center, with residencies in surgery and medicine, and is one of the teaching centers for Plastic Surgery under the directorship of Dr. Theavy Mok. More recent missions have received grant support through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and its Face-to-Face program. Our missions have also teamed with Operation Smile International, and Smile Cambodia.
